History of Gini Winery

A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.

According to family documents, the history of the Gini family intersects with the vineyard and wine, about a century ago. It is then that the ancestors began to systematically engage in the cultivation and expansion of privately owned vineyards at the foot of the Gerania Orae and specifically in the Chania Megara area. An area which, due to the slope of the soil, the low yield per hectare and the amphitheatrical layout, offers particularly high quality grapes with concentrated flavour and aromas. Initially, these grapes were vinified in the traditional way of the time to meet the family's needs. But soon the high demand leads them to the commercial market. And that's how it all begins....

The family's passion and love for the vineyard and wine, leads in 1967 to the creation of a state-of-the-art, for that time, winery with a capacity of 800 tons in privately owned facilities of 1,500 m² in Megara, Attica. In an effort to respond to the increased demand and adapt to new trends, continuous improvements, sometimes small and sometimes large, are made.

In 1990 the long family tradition continued with the passing of the baton from Konstantinos I. Gkinis to his two sons, Ioannis and Nikolaos. With enthusiasm and hard work, they proceed to create the company Ioannis & Nikolaos K. Ginis O.E. Their main vision and goal is to improve quality and modernize the technical infrastructure. Thus they make continuous steps in this direction, without ever forgetting the history and tradition they inherited...

Carefully selecting varieties from the land of Megariki and from other regions of Greece, such as Savatiano, Roditis, Malagouzia, Moschofilero, Late Edessa, Assyrtiko (for white wines) and Agiorgitiko, Merlot, Syrah (for red wines), they proceed to winemaking, always under absolutely controlled conditions and with minimal intervention.

Thus, the steps of the Gini family on the road of quality wine production continue at a steady pace and knowing that this passion is inherited from generation to generation, we hope that it will be passed on to the next generations with the same passion for many years to come...
